Robot-assisted technology

Parkland uses the da Vinci® surgery system—widely considered the most effective and least invasive surgical technology available. This system combines computer and robotic equipment to treat a broad range of conditions.

Robotic surgery with the da Vinci® system follows this process:

  • The system uses tiny incisions—much smaller than those of traditional surgery—to insert miniature instruments and a high-definition 3D camera.
  • Your surgeon views a magnified, high-resolution 3D image of the surgical site.
  • The robotic equipment precisely translates your surgeon's hand movements to perform the operation.

Parkland Medical Center offers minimally invasive robotic surgery and is the first hospital in New Hampshire to offer The ExcelsiusGPS system technology for spine surgery. Robotic surgery technology helps guide surgeons along a patient’s spine to more accurately place implants using minimally invasive techniques. Medical images are taken and imported into the system and the surgeon uses these images to determine the size and placement of implants and creates a plan based on the patient’s anatomy. This plan guides a rigid robotic arm to a specific region of the spine. Throughout the procedure, the surgical instruments and implants are continuously displayed on the screen for the surgeon and staff to monitor.
